SURJ Community Meeting

Showing Up for Racial Justice Nashville will meet at Woodbine UMC, 2621 Nolensville Pike, Nashville 37211. We will discuss how SURJ members can support community asks and actions during this time, including signatures for the Community Oversight Board. This meeting is partly in response to the fatal shooting of Dan Hambrick by police officer Andrew Delke on July 27.

Editorial comment: I don't know if we'll ever have an unbiased accounting of what happened on July 27. It might be more likely if we had a Community Ovesight Board; I hope more people will join in supporting that system. Police work is inherently authoritarian, and our society is very authoritarian, and I would like to see that change. The book "The Authoritarians," by psychologist Robert Altemeyer, is available free online, and I think it does a good job of explaining the authoritarian mindset; I wish more people would read it.
